Visiting Scholar Support
The intellectual life of any department's faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students is greatly enriched by a steady stream of visiting teachers and researchers from other universities around the world. Support for visiting faculty is not typically funded by the university but has been identified by the department as a high priority in helping our department make a major leap ahead. Such a program would also make effective use of UCSB's uniquely desirable location.
Ideally, a visiting scholars program would fund both long-term (15 weeks) and short-term (2 weeks) visitors to the department. Exposure to outside scholars would benefit our students, enhance research in our department, enhance our reputation in the outside world, and complement the endowed chair program by making it easier to attract top candidates to join our department.
The department currently operates one visiting scholar program:
If you are interested in establishing a named visiting scholars program in Economics, please contact Michael Miller at giving@econ.ucsb.edu or (805) 893-3992.
You can also make a tax-deductible donation to the Departmental Visiting Scholar Fund. This fund enhances our links to the world community by assisting prominent visitors to UCSB with travel expenses and by funding courses for long-term visitors to teach. This fund also supports the department's seminar series. To make a contribution to this fund, please visit the giving form
