Janet A. Alpert Fellowship in Economics


Janet A. Alpert graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1968, and earned her MBA from the University of Connecticut, Stamford in1978.  She retired as president of LandAmerica Financial group in 2004, having previously spent 20 years as a senior executive with Lawyers Title Insurance.  Ms. Alpert sits on the governing boards of many business, professional and charitable organizations, including serving as a national committee member for The Campaign for UC Santa Barbara, a member of the Legacy Circle and Chancellor’s Council, a life member of the UCSB Alumni Association, and beginning in July 2008 will be a Trustee of the UCSB Foundation.  The Janet A. Alpert Fellowship in Economics shall support a qualified graduate student in Economics, with preference for a female student to the extent possible under State and Federal law and UC policy.
