The UCSB Economics Department would like to congratulate our 2006 PhD Graduating Class. They are all very interesting people and will certainly go on to promising careers in Economics.


Donghun worked under Peter Kuhn on the topic of education and wage structure. He will be working at Korea Labor Institute as a research fellow in Seoul, South Korea.

Wei worked with Rajnish Mehra on asset pricing and herd behavior in financial markets. She will be working as a faculty in the school of Economics at Peking University in Beijing, P.R.China. 
Jennifer worked under Ted Frech on the topic of raising rivals' costs via environmental regulations. She has accepted a tenure track faculty position in the Economics department at Eastern Connecticut State University.

Doug worked under Kelly Bedard on the impact of the business cycle on educational choices. He will be joining the Federal Trade Commission in the fall. 
Paul worked under Rod Garratt on microeconomic theory. He has joined the Colorado Department of Health in Denver, Colorado.

Byung-Dong worked under Doug Steigerwald on financial econometrics. He will be joining DFA Capital Management in the fall. 
Patricia, worked with Bob Deacon (UCSB) and Antonio Bento (University of Maryland) on economic development, education and environmental issues in east Africa. She is presently Assistant Research Professor in the Economics Department at the University of Copenhagen.

Leopoldo E. Soto Arriagada:

 

Leopoldo worked under Charlie Kolstad and Doug Steigerwald on the economics of climate change. He will be moving to Washington DC to work for the CNA Corporation.

Taeil worked under Perry Shapiro on the Korean education system. He will return to the Korea Customs Service.

Fernando worked under Peter Kuhn on the effects of school leadership roles. He will be joining the faculty of Pomona College in the fall. 
Catherine worked under Stephen DeCanio and under Bob Deacon studying growth and the environment. She will be joining the faculty of Johns Hopkins in the fall.
