Economics 135: Monetary Economics

For Economics majors. Normally offered at least once a year; Fall, Winter, and/or Summer Quarters.

Prerequisites: Econ 101 or equivalent. Econ 134a is recommended.

The course is about monetary policy and its impact on financial markets, financial institutions, and on the economy. In the process, we will discuss how interest rates and asset prices are determined, how financial intermediaries operate, and how the Federal Reserve manipulates the money supply.

Textbook: Frederic Mishkin, The Economics of Money, Banking, and Financial Markets.
