The first California Workshop on Environmental and Resource
Economics was held in May 1993 at Centennial House at UCSB, organized by Bob
Deacon and Charlie Kolstad. Since then, every
12-24 months (i.e., occasionally), UCSB has hosted this
The primary focus of the workshop is on graduate students, faculty and
researchers at universities, public or private institutes, or government
agencies involved in research in environmental and natural resource economics.
The program provides researchers the opportunity to share their work and/or
ideas in a relaxed, workshop environment.

program. Every presentation is 10
minutes long, and discussants have 2-3 minutes per paper.

Hotel Details
A limited number of rooms have been reserved at the

Hampton Inn ($149 per night). To book, call (805) 681-9800 and specify “in-house” reservations. The group rate for UCSB is $149 per night; rooms must be booked by March 7 for this discount.
Best Western South Coast Inn ($120 for Thursday night, $135 for Friday). To book, call 800-350-3614. Be sure to mention “Occasional Workshop” to get the group rate. Rooms must be booked by February 24 to use the group rate.

shuttle to and from the conference at these hotels only. If you will be providing your own ground
transportation, you may wish to stay closer to downtown
Funding
There will be no registration fee for attending the conference. Travel block grants will be available for all presenting participants (including session chairs and discussants), and smaller grants will be available for all students attending the workshop. These grants will be processed and mailed after the Workshop. We currently estimate that $250 will be available for presenters, and $125 will be available to attendees not presenting. These amounts may change, depending on the number of participants. Transportation and lodging will be arranged and paid for by the participants, but a shuttle will be provided between some hotels and UCSB. In addition, meals at the workshop will be provided. Please keep your receipts!
