Economics PhD

(PhD students studying with me may be in either the Economics Department or
the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management).

Economics Department

Students interested in writing a dissertation in environmental or resource economics in the UCSB Economics Department would be expected to prepare by undertaking a rigorous program of study that prepares them as economists first and foremost. Refer to the Department homepage for requirements for the PhD program. I would expect students to develop an expertise in one of the major fields of economics (eg, macroeconomics, industrial organization, public economics) as well as environmental and resource economics.

Funding (fees/tuition paid plus a stipend) is usually not a problem for good students, though it cannot be guaranteed. A few research assistantships are available, though rarely for first year students.

Other faculty in the Department of Economics with potential interests in aspects of environmental and resource economics:

Prof. Robert Deacon
Prof. Ted Bergstrom
Prof. Stephen Decanio
Prof. Douglas Morgan
Prof. Mary Nisbet
Prof. Perry Shapiro
