Getting access to a computer on campus

You are going to be making frequent use of computers in this class,  checking the class web site,  downloading data from the Web and processing the data with Excel.  The university makes computing facilities conveniently available to you.

Phelps 1529 is the "Open Access Lab" where any student can go, but there are only 30 computers here.  Students can go to other labs during "open hours," but only after they have obtained an "IC sticker."

You can pick up your sticker at Phelps 1523, during business hours at any time during the term. You will need to bring something to show that you are in this class, like your class schedule or a printed copy of the class syllabus.

You can find information about computing facilities on campus by clicking here for the IC web site.  To find the schedule of open hours, you can either call 893-8414 for a recorded listing, or  check the bulletin board just outside the IC main office in Phelps 1521.  To talk to a live person, you can call the IC information desk at 893-3002

If you are not familiar with the spreadsheet program Excel, you may want to attend a workshop run  by  Instructional Computing. Check the IC web site for time and place.
