The Laboratory for Aggregate Economics and Finance (LAEF) will be hosting the 2019 Credibility Conference at the Upham Hotel Garden room, which is located on 1404 De La Vina Street, Santa Barbara. The event begins on November 14 at 4:00pm and will end at 4:00pm on November 15.

In 2004, UC Santa Barbara's Professor Finn E. Kydland and Professor Edward Prescott were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for their research on time inconsistency. Even well-meaning policymakers can end up delivering bad outcomes, as many do not believe that their promises for future policies will actually be implemented. How can policymakers gain credibility, and how valuable is it in our society? Are discretion and flexibility related to credibility? The conference aims to help us develop tools ot answer these questions.

The organizer of the conference is Eric Young, a Professor of Economics at the University of Virginia.
