The Department of Economics welcomes guest speakers from Analysis Group, Inc. who will present a PhD Job Talk on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 3:30pm in North Hall 2111. This presentation is primarily for ECON PhD Candidates and Bren PHD EES Candidates, who are currently on the job market, and those considering going on the job market next year. However, all PhD students in Economics and Bren PhD EES students are welcome to attend. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

The guest speakers will be the following consultants from their Los Angeles office:

Dave Maber, Manager, PhD Accounting Harvard University

Dr. Maber specializes in the application of economic theory and data analysis to matters involving complex cost estimation, cost allocation, and profitability measurement issues. A former accounting professor, his extensive experience in academia includes teaching introductory and advanced courses in managerial and cost accounting at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Maber's peer-reviewed research and invited discussions have been published in the Journal of Accounting Research, Contemporary Accounting Research, the European Accounting Review, Management Accounting Quarterly, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Finance. He has served as an editorial board member for the Journal of Management Accounting Research and Contemporary Accounting Research, and as a reviewer for journals such as The Accounting Review, The Journal of Law and Economics, the Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, the Journal of Corporate Finance, and Management Science. Dr. Maber was previously on the faculties of the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan, as well as California Polytechnic State University, where he chaired the Budget and Long-Range Planning Committee and was a member of the Campus Advisory Council to the President for Planning, Process, and Budget. 

Diego Focanti, Manager, PhD Economics Brown University

Dr. Focanti specializes in the application of economic theory and statistical tools to solving problems arising in complex antitrust litigation, commercial disputes, and public policy matters. His litigation and consulting experience includes analyses of competition and pricing in two-sided platforms, commodity markets, and financial markets; evaluations of class certification issues; analyses of the value of personal data in online privacy and data breach litigation; and assessments of damages in various commercial and contractual disputes. Dr. Focanti has assisted clients and supported experts in all phases of the litigation process, including the preparation of expert reports, depositions, and trial testimony.
