Jaime was born in Bogota, Colombia, where he grew up in a family of five. He earned a BA and MSc in Economics from the National University of Colombia, a top university in Latin America. He scored Top 4 in the Colombian National Exam for Economics graduates. Jaime worked after his studies as a Research Fellow in the research department of the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC, and as a Research Assistant in Fedesarollo, a top think tank in Latin America.
At UCSB, his research focus is in Econometrics. He is a co-author in a project with faculty. This project investigates the best way to tell whether a policy program has a significant impact using statistical inference in what is called paired experiments. He is writing his job market paper and expects to finish grad school next year and continue a research career.
